HVRNT = Hivernant

Back when the fur-traders plied their trade accross north america 'hivernant' was used as a term of reverence and a title for a seasoned veteran - someone who had spent a winter season out in the wilds. Hivernant is french for 'winterer' and it meant you had put in the time to earn the respect of your peers.

How it began: " HVRNT Studio formally began in the winter of '15/'16 as a "I wonder if I could do that..." art project. After witnessing a few of Bryan Nash Gills stunning woodcut prints I was curious if I could make one to hang in my house (if it turned out...)  and I did...and it did, eventually. From that point HVRNT Studio has always been an art project...a place to follow whims and curiosities - always rooted in making things with my hands. " + { Zak }

After that beginning HVRNT has ebbed and flowed with ther creative pursuits, but always made its' way back to printing trees.

Where we're headed: In the early parts of 2024 we began printing vintage letterpress prints, designing our own graphic tees and exploring other ideas to expand HVRNT Studio into an artist driven brand.

Rooted in the North. We make things that you'd likely find at Grandma's cabin by the lake.
