"Cabin Special” - Belt Hatchet (Snow & Nealley)
Ernest Carl Oberholtzer (1884–1977) was an American explorer, author, and conservationist, and one of the eight founders of The Wilderness Society. In 1909, he paddled 3,000 miles through the border lakes of northern Minnesota and Canada with his guide and friend Billy Magee. He went on to become a leading voice for protecting the Quetico/Superior National Forest region and for honoring the Native cultures of the region. His life’s work should remind us why these wild places still matter, and why they’re worth fighting for.
What is the "Cabin Special"? While we don't make the axes and hatchets in this collection we do put the HVRNT spin on them - we call this the "Cabin Special" touch. Each piece is hand-finished in our studio. Thoughtful details give each one that unique character you’d expect to find up at Grandma's cabin.
Note about the cutting edge: Each Snow & Nealley axe and hatchet comes un-sharpened. This is a throwback to all the old axe makers. Traditionally axes came un-sharpened, leaving the edge sharpening to the customer - to sharpen to their desired edge.
Specifications: The Snow & Nealley Belt Hatchet is 14 1/2" overall with a 5 1/4" fire tempered, hand ground axe head with 3 1/8" cutting edge. American hickory handle. Brown leather belt sheath.
USA Made.
